First Look at M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, Based on Sandcastle Graphic Novel

M. Night Shyamalan may not have had the best of luck adapting material that already had a huge fan base. But with Old, that’s not much of a worry — it’s based on a relatively obscure graphic novel called Sandcastle. One that just happens to be one of the director’s favorites, as it helped him come to terms with the aging of his parents. Oh, and it also sounds a whole lot like many of his movies. A family on vacation heads to a secluded beach, then find themselves unable to leave. And things are about to get a whole lot creepier.

Take a look at the first trailer, unleashed during the Big Game today:

More on Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters’ Sandcastle can be found at SelfmadeHero.com. Here is the official synopsis:

“Early morning on a perfect summer’s day, people begin to descend on an idyllic, secluded beach. Among their number, a family, a young couple, a refugee and some American tourists. Its fine white sand is fringed with rock pools filled with crystal clear water. The beach is sheltered from prying eyes by green-fringed cliffs that soar around the cove. But this utopia keeps a dark secret.

A woman’s body is found floating in the waters, which brings these thirteen strangers together to try and unravel the riddle of the sands and escape the beach alive in this tense, fantastical mystery.”
