Fantastic Beasts’ Eddie Redmayne Auditioned for the BioShock Movie

Prior to starring in his own corner of the Wizarding World, Eddie Redmayne got close to being attached to a prominent video game franchise. In a recent Actors on Actors interview with Variety, Redmayne and Jamie Dornan recalled when they were living together in LA, attempting to make a name for themselves. Dornan then said that one day they went to a Pottery Barn and made some crockery with the names of all their actor friends. At the same time, they both auditioned for a role in a BioShock movie adaptation.

“I’m slightly embarrassed you’re putting that out into the public arena, given I used to tell my parents that I was going to L.A. in January to endlessly slave away to try to get work,” Redmayne said. “You and Andrew Garfield and I were texting, trying to remember what those things were. And one of them was BioShock. You remember BioShock? We were furious with each other as we were going through it, and competing for the same role.”

While the actors didn’t reveal the role they were competing for, it’s hard to imagine them in minor parts. Ultimately, the BioShock adaptation never saw the green light.

In the same interview, Redmayne also teased some action scenes he had to do for his upcoming Fantastic Beasts 3. The actor revealed that he had to swim in the cold water of England.

“I can’t tell you anything other than the fact that I think I’ve got some night shoots in Watford, in Leavesden, that we were meant to shoot in the summer in water,” he said. “But now obviously because of lockdown, and the film shutdown, they’re being shot in early December. And suddenly you find yourself swimming outdoors in British winter.”

He then joked that he couldn’t add anything more due to the NDA that he signed. At the moment, Fantastic Beasts 3 is still shooting in the UK. According to Warner Bros.’s current plans, it will hit theaters on July 15, 2022.
