Zack Snyder Shares a Clip From Junkie XL’s New Justice League Score

We already know that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is going to look very different from the version of the DC team-up film that hit theaters in 2017. But it’s also going to sound different too. Earlier this year, Snyder confirmed that his Justice League cut would feature a new score from Tom Holkenborg, a.k.a. Junkie XL, Snyder’s original choice to compose the film’s music. Now, via TheFilmJunkee podcast, Snyder has given fans a taste of Holkenborg’s contributions, which you can view below.

Junkie XL previously collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the score for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which Snyder also directed. But when Joss Whedon took over post-production duties on Justice League, he was replaced by Danny Elfman. Holkenborg later released a statement on Twitter confirming that his departure from the film wasn’t his choice. He wrote, “As my mentor Hans Zimmer told me: you haven’t made it in Hollywood as a composer until you get replaced on a project. So I guess I finally graduated this week.”

Listening to Snyder’s clip, Holkenborg’s new score sounds more guitar-based than the theatrical cut. During the interview, Snyder also revealed that his version of Justice League has already been screened for Warner Bros. executives. Additionally, he teased the possibility of releasing Holkenborg’s new score on vinyl at some point.

“It’s cool because he’s really done an insane job,” said Snyder. “We recently just screened the movie for publicity and some other guys on the lot, and the music supervisor from Warner Bros. was saying, he was like ‘Holy smokes, the music is unbelievable. Junkie has just crushed it.’ And yes, he really has, I mean it’s wall-to-wall. I was asking, ‘Are we doing an album? Because I want a box of those vinyl, four hours of music.’ I don’t know if we’re doing it, I want to, but who knows?”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on HBO Max in 2021.
