Back in November, producer Todd Garner confirmed that the long-awaited Mortal Kombat reboot wouldn’t make its January premiere due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Garner neglected to share a new release window for the film. But now, Warner Bros. has finally revealed when fans can get their fatality fix on the big screen. Via Variety, the studio announced that their adaptation of the hit video game series will bow on April 16, 2021.
Previously, Warner Bros. planned to release Mortal Kombat on January 15. The reboot wrapped principal photography last December and was originally going to reconvene for reshoots in spring 2020. But once the pandemic started, the cast and crew were forced to postpone their on-set reunion until the fall. Earlier this month, actor Lewis Tan (whose role in the film remains a mystery) took to Twitter to share a new logo for the reboot, pictured above.
Mortal Kombat is also one of several 2021 films that WB will also stream on HBO Max day-and-date with theaters. The movie will be available to watch on the service for 30 days at no additional cost to subscribers. After this, it will revert exclusively to theaters until its release on home media.
