Wonder Woman 1984 Will Be the First HBO Max Movie To Stream in 4K

News that Wonder Woman 1984 will premiere on HBO Max later this month came as both a relief and a disappointment. On one hand, it’s good that fans will be able to watch at least one big budget superhero movie at the end of such a disastrous year. But if the trailers serve as any indication, the film’s stunning visuals demand to be experienced on the big screen. Thankfully, WarnerMedia has offered a bit of good news for any subscribers who own a 4K TV. According to The Verge, Wonder Woman 1984 will stream in 4K, making it the first HBO Max title to do so.

WW84 will also support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and HDR10, if your home entertainment setup permits it. The platforms that support 4K streaming include Apple TV 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Cube / 4K Fire TV Edition smart TVs, Chromecast Ultra, AT&T TV, and select Android TV devices. As The Verge notes, HBO Max is still not available on Roku thanks to an ongoing dispute between the two companies.

Director Patty Jenkins also confirmed this latest development on Twitter. You can check out what she had to say about the news below.

It’s just as well that this also happens to be one of the best times to score a 4K TV. Black Friday weekend has obviously come and gone. Regardless, there are still plenty of deals to take advantage of as we get closer to Christmas. And if that’s not enough of an incentive, WarnerMedia’s announcement promises that they will expand 4K capabilities for HBO Max’s streaming catalog next year. This bodes especially well for DC projects like Zack Snyder’s Justice League along with the upcoming Green Lantern and Justice League Dark series.

Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters and HBO Max on December 25.
