It’s true that Peter Dinklage has flirted with the superhero genre a few times in the past. However, he’s never made a superhero movie quite like this. According to Deadline, Legendary has chosen the former Game of Thrones actor to star in their Toxic Avenger reboot.
The studio began developing a new take on The Toxic Avenger last year when they hired Macon Blair to write and direct the reboot. Troma Studios released the original movie in 1984. The film followed Melvin Ferd, a lowly janitor who mutated into the titular hero after falling into a drum of toxic waste. The accident gave him a deformed appearance, but it also endowed him with enhanced strength. Troma later produced three Toxic Avengers sequels, two of which (like the fist movie) were made for only $500,000. The studio’s co-founders, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, are working on the reboot as producers. Herz and Kaufman also co-directed the first three films in the original series. Kaufman directed the fourth film, Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV, by himself.

Dinklage has appeared in two films this year. The first, I Care a Lot, premiered at TIFF back in September. He also has a voice role in The Croods: A New Age, which opened last week. Last year, it was reported that Dinklage was also teaming up with The Batman director Matt Reeves on an adaptation of Boom! Studios’ Last Sons of America for Netflix. But it’s not clear if that project is still in the works.
