Marvel Executive Shoots Down Rumors of a Digital Chadwick Boseman

Chadwick Boseman’s sudden demise shocked the industry and his fans around the world. It also upended Marvel Studios’ plans to put Black Panther 2 into production. Some fans have speculated that the studio would use a digital double of Boseman to complete the sequel. While Marvel has remained largely quiet about its next move, Marvel Studios’ executive vice president Victoria Alonso shot down the digital Chadick Boseman rumors during an interview with Clarin.

“No. There’s only one Chadwick, and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to the story and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.”

“[We] have to think carefully about what we are going to do, and how, and think about how we are going to honor the franchise,” added Alonso.

Ryan Coogler signed on to write and direct Black Panther 2 in 2018. Marvel also announced a May 6, 2022 release date that seems increasingly unlikely to be met. Prior to Boseman’s demise, it was expected that he would return alongside Letitia Wright, Dani Gurira, and Martin Freeman.
