The poor box office performance of Justice League seemingly ended any talk of sequels. Joss Whedon’s reshoots also removed Ray Porter’s Darkseid from the film. However, Synder is currently working on his Justice League cut for HBO Max, and Darkseid will be reinstated to the film. Via ScreenRant, Snyder’s recent appearance on The Nerd Queens revealed that he’s still thinking about what would have happened with Darkseid if Justice League 2 had gone forward.
“[Ray Porter] and I were talking about this and what’s cool or what’s the right response to some questions,” said Snyder. “It’s a fair question to ask me, you know, like what do I say to the world about, you know, what happens when Darkseid comes to Earth? Then what? You know, Is that a thing? And I think, listen, the truth is that, did I write and did I have and conceive a complete- do I know what happens when Darkseid… yes. I do know what happens. To say and to speculate about what that is and that that would be exciting, I think that’s a fine thing.”

Synder has previously described his four-hour cut as an alternate reality separate from the movie continuity of the DCEU. However, it’s possible that the new cut of the film could reignite interest in a real sequel. New scenes are currently being filmed with Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke and Jared Leto’s Joker added to the mix as well.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on HBO Max in 2021.
