James Gunn Says His Suicide Squad (Probably) Won’t Contradict David Ayer

The expectations for James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad are through the roof even if there is still almost a year to wait before its theatrical release. And it seems that James Gunn’s upcoming soft reboot of 2016’s Suicide Squad won’t contradict too much of what fans have seen in David Ayer’s film. While talking with Empire, director Gunn revealed that although his story is a thing of its own, it shouldn’t feel too out of place with the first Suicide Squad.

“Um, it’s its own thing,” Gunn said. “It does not contradict the first movie, I don’t think. It might in some small ways… I don’t know…”

Gunn went on to praise the choices his predecessor made as far as the casting goes since he picked some “fantastic actors.”

Besides the interview, Empire has debuted a couple of photos from the movie. Fans will get the chance to see some familiar faces like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, as well as Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Besides the old members, there are also many new characters like Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, Michael Rooker’s Savant, David Dastmalchian’s Polka Dot Man, or the half-human King Shark.

The Suicide Squad should hit theaters on August 6, 2021. You can take a look at the new pictures here below.
