Sarah Shahi Joins the Cast of Black Adam

Earlier this month, Black Adam was taken off of the release calendar as another round of COVID-19-related delays hit Warner Bros. Pictures. However, that doesn’t mean that Black Adam isn’t going forward. Deadline has confirmed a previous report by The Illuminerdi that Sarah Shahi is the latest addition to Black Adam‘s cast.

According to Deadline’s report, Shahi will portray a university professor turned freedom fighter in Kahndaq, the homeland of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. The Illuminerdi contends that Shahi’s actual role will be Isis, a heroine empowered by Black Adam. Shahi previously co-starred in Person of Interest on CBS. Her other credits include The L Word, The Rookie, City on a Hill, and Sex/Life.

The other confirmed cast members include Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. At DC FanDome, Johnson announced that Hawkman and Atom Smasher will be a part of the Justice Society, with Cyclone and Doctor Fate yet to be cast.

In DC’s comic book universe, Black Adam was the first champion of the wizard Shazam. However, Black Adam abused his powers and was exiled by the wizard for thousands of years. Black Adam eventually returned as Billy Batson’s rival, but more recent stories have depicted him as an antihero devoted to protecting Kahndaq.

Jaume Collet-Serra will direct Black Adam, after previously working with Johnson on Disney’s Jungle Cruise movie. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani wrote the current draft of the script. The film doesn’t have a release date at the moment, but it will begin production in 2021.
