Furiosa Adds Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

It’s been more than five years since George Miller breathed new life into his Mad Max series with Fury Road. Now, he’s finally gearing up for another post apocalyptic adventure. This time, Miller will trace the origins of one of Fury Road’s breakout characters. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Anya Taylor-Joy will officially headline Furiosa as a younger version of Charlize Theron’s character from the previous film.

Rumors about Taylor-Joy’s involvement with the project began making the rounds earlier this year. Miller reportedly auditioned her for the role over Skype back in March. Additionally, Taylor-Joy will be joined in the upcoming prequel by Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Unfortunately, the nature of their roles is being kept under wraps for now.

Fury Road introduced Furiosa as one of Immortan Joe’s most trusted lieutenants. However, she quickly turned against her boss in order to free his five wives from slavery. Furiosa later encountered Tom Hardy’s Max, and the two eventually teamed up against Joe and his forces.

Interestingly, THR notes that Warner Bros. still hasn’t actually greenlit the project. According to the report, the prequel is in “advance development.”

Miller will co-write, direct, and produce the film with Doug Mitchell through their Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner. But it doesn’t have a shooting schedule yet.

Furiosa is currently without a release date.
