Jessica Henwick Teases The Matrix 4’s Game-Changing Action

More than 20 years ago, The Matrix set a new standard for action movies with its cutting-edge visual effects sequences and smooth stunt choreography. According to Jessica Henwick, we can expect more of this in The Matrix 4. Henwick recently spoke with ComicBook.com to plug her new role in Love and Monsters, which hits VOD this week. When the new Matrix sequel came up, Henwick promised that director Lana Wachowski is raising the bar once again.

We still have no idea who Henwick is playing in The Matrix 4. Regardless, she’s no stranger to VFX-heavy action scenes. From Game of Thrones to Iron Fist, Henwick has shown that she can handle herself in a fight. But what really impressed her during filming was the amount of work going on behind the scenes.

“There are definitely moments on set where Yahya [Abdul-Mateen II] and I look at each other and we just go, ‘Matrix 4,” said Henwick. “Those pinch me moments. Yeah. Lana is doing some really interesting things on a technical level in the same way that you know, she created a style back then. I think she’s going to change the industry again with this film. There’s some camera rigs that I’ve never seen before that we’re using. That’s probably all I can say for that.”

Wachowski and her sister, Lilly, continued to push the limits of VFX technology in two other Matrix sequels that bowed in 2003. Neither of those films were as well-received as the original. However, it should be interesting to see how the filmmakers build on the last 17 years’ worth of technical advancements for the next installment.

Lana Wachowski is directing The Matrix 4 from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. The film will hit theaters on December 22, 2021.
