Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Animation revealed that the next DC animated movie will be Batman: Death in the Family. It’s an adaptation of A Death in the Family, the storyline by Jim Starlin and artist Jim Aparo that sent the second Robin to his grave. Fans were given the chance to decide Jason Todd/Robin’s fate, and they voted to kill him. However, Warner Bros. is keeping the interactive angle alive by letting viewers choose Jason’s path.
The film is a prequel to Batman: Under the Red Hood, which was an adaptation of Jason Todd’s resurrection. There will also be some footage from Under the Red Hood in Death in the Family. Regardless, it appears that the original footage includes Jason’s transformation into either Red Hood or Red Robin. Bruce Greenwood and John DiMaggio will reprise their roles as Batman and Joker. Additionally, Vincent Martella will return to the role of young Jason.
Warner Bros. has released more details about Death in the Family, including its box art and October 13 release date. Brandon Vietti wrote and directed the film, which promises to undo Jason’s murder as “the destinies of Batman, Robin and The Joker will play out in shocking new ways as viewers make multiple choices to control the story.” Additionally, Zehra Fazal will voice Talia al Ghul, with Gary Cole both as Two-Face and Commissioner James Gordon.

Here’s the official description from Warner Bros.:
“The interactive Blu-ray presentation offers many different ways for viewers to tell the Batman: Death in the Family story, with numerous twists and turns in the middle, and several possible endings. The choices along the way put greater weight on the viewers’ decisions and result in even stronger stories.
Produced, directed and written by Brandon Vietti, Batman: Death in the Family offers an inventive take on the long-demanded story. In the new animated presentation, the infamous murder of Batman protégé Jason Todd will be undone, and the destinies of Batman, Robin and The Joker will play out in shocking new ways as viewers make multiple choices to control the story. And while Batman: Under the Red Hood provides a baseline, the story also branches in new directions and features several characters previously unseen in the original film.”
Batman: Death in the Family will be released on Blu-ray and digital on October 13.
