NeverEnding Story’s Tami Stronach to Star in Man and Witch Fantasy Film

The recent wave of nostalgia for the ’80s is bringing back Tami Stronach in a new fantasy role. Stronach mostly famously portrayed the Childlike Empress in The NeverEnding Story back in 1984. After that iconic role, she mostly left her acting career and performed as a dancer for most of her life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is now returning on the big screen after nearly a 40-year hiatus to star in Man and Witch.

In the upcoming children’s fantasy film, Stronach will play a “reclusive, yet powerful and mysterious witch.” Her character falls madly in love with a “hapless goatherd when he hires her to break a curse by an evil wizard.” Stronach will also executive produce the movie, written by her husband, Greg Steinbruner.

Besides Stronach, Man and Witch will also feature Sean Astin, Rhea Perlman, Christopher Lloyd, and Michael Emerson.

Rob Margolies will direct the movie. According to the producers, the upcoming fantasy movie is a “heartwarming homage to the lo-fi fantasy films of the 80s,” and a “comic adventure that both fulfills and subverts the expectations of what a fantasy universe can be.”

Man and Witch will also feature the Jim Henson Creature Shop’s craft in the making of some comic roles involving a talking sheep, goose, and dog. The latter will be portrayed by a mixture of real animals and puppets.

Production on Man and Witch will begin in the late fall in the New York tri-state area.
