Louis Leterrier May Direct Bright 2 For Netflix

Although it was hit with a wave of dismal reviews when it premiered in 2017, Bright became one of Netflix’s most-viewed original movies. So it’s not too surprising that a sequel is in the works. Now, Netflix has just taken a big step toward getting a follow-up off the ground. Deadline is reporting that Louis Leterrier has entered negotiations to direct Bright 2.

Leterrier is probably best known for helming The Incredible Hulk for Marvel Studios back in 2008. He also directed Jason Statham in the first two Transporter movies, and stepped behind the camera for all ten episodes of Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The original Bright imagined a contemporary world where magic is real and humans coexist with various creatures from fantasy lore. Will Smith and Joel Edgerton headlined the movie as a human LAPD officer and his new partner, an orc. The film was watched by 11 million households in its first three days and eventually racked up the most views for a Netflix film in its first week.

Leterrier will replace David Ayer in the Bright 2 director’s chair. However, Ayer remains onboard the project as a producer alongside Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless. Ayer also worked on the sequel’s screenplay with Evan Spiliotopoulos (Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins) and T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner). Smith and Edgerton will reprise their roles in the new film.

Bright 2 is still without an official release date.
