Bruce Campbell Wants a Role in Doctor Strange 2

After months of rumors, Sam Raimi has seeming confirmed that he will direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This will be Raimi’s first Marvel movie since he revitalized the superhero genre in the original Spider-Man trilogy. However, Raimi’s longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Bruce Campbell, is already lobbying for his own part in the movie.

Responding to a tweet announcing Raimi’s involvement with the Doctor Strange sequel, Campbell volunteered himself to play the film’s villain. You can check out what he had to say below.

Raimi and Campbell met in high school and launched their filmmaking careers in 1977 with It’s Murder!, a film shot on Super 8. Their best known collaboration is the Evil Dead franchise, which spawned four films and a TV series. Cambell also memorably had three different cameos in each of Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. It was rumored for years that Campbell was supposed to play Mysterio in Raimi’s unmade Spider-Man 4.  But Campbell quashed those rumors during an interview with CinemaBlend in 2019.

Marvel still hasn’t revealed who will menace Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange in the upcoming sequel. But even if Campbell doesn’t fill this role, a cameo does seem likely. Campbell has also made brief appearances in other Raimi features like Darkman and Oz, the Great and Powerful.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will open in theaters on November 5, 2021.
