Netflix has picked up the rights to adapt the hit 1983 arcade game, Dragon’s Lair, as a live-action movie. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is in talks to both headline and produce Dragon’s Lair.
Should the deal go forward, Reynolds will portray the game’s hero, Dirk the Daring, a bumbling and occasionally capable knight. Within the two Dragon’s Lair video games, Dirk was forced to save his true love, Princess Daphne, from Singe the dragon and a wizard named Mordroc. The original Dragon’s Lair hit arcades in 1983, and quickly became a sensation thanks to its animation. The series was created by former Disney animator, Don Bluth and Rick Dyer.
Bluth is also producing the live-action Dragon’s Lair for Netflix after pursuing an animated feature for several years. Joining Bluth as producers are Gary Goldman and Jon Pomeroy, with Roy Lee and Trevor Engelson as executive producers. Dan and Kevin Hageman (The LEGO Movie) will co-write the script. The Hageman brothers are also showrunning Nickelodeon’s upcoming Star Trek animated series.

Dragon’s Lair has previously been adapted as a Saturday morning animated series, and a short-lived comic book.
If Reynolds signs on, it will be his third project for Netflix after 6 Underground (pictured above, top left) and the upcoming action film, Red Notice. However, Dragon’s Lair is currently without a director or a start date.
