The long-gestating film adaptation of the fantasy series by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl will finally hit theaters later this year. In the books, Artemis is a twelve-year-old mastermind who kidnaps a fairy to restore his family’s fortune. Given the freshly released trailer, it seems that the movie will take a different path. From what we see, it appears the upcoming movie will ignore the events of the first installment in the series. While this choice may be dictated by the fact that it is hard to sell a twelve-year-old antihero as family-friendly to the public, it could backfire with hardcore fans of the saga.
The movie should have debuted last year, but Disney rescheduled its release due to the Fox merger. That’s not the only news, though. In the latest trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation, Colin Farrell is now front and center. Farrell will portray the main character’s missing father.
