Back in 2003, Mark Millar and artist Dave Johnson’s Superman: Red Son miniseries revealed an Elseworlds tale where the Man of Steel was never an American. Instead, Superman embraced the philosophy of the Soviet Union after being raised in Russia. That world will be revisited later this month in the Superman: Red Son animated film. One of the big changes is Superman’s relationship with Lois Lane. In the original comic, Superman and Lois were largely strangers to each other. And with Superman out of the way, Lex Luthor was Lois’ suitor and eventual husband.
Warner Bros. Animation has released a new Superman: Red Son preview scene that takes place in 1955. In the clip, Lois and Lex share their obvious affection for each other while President Eisenhower rages over the phone. This moment takes place shortly after the newsreel that revealed Superman’s existence. Lex wants to see for himself if Superman is real…by dropping a satellite on Metropolis.
