Nathan Fillion Talks About His Role in The Suicide Squad

Thanks to his starring role as Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly (and its big-screen continuation, Serenity), Nathan Fillion has become a bona fide icon in the sci-fi world. So when it was announced he was joining the cast of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, fans welcomed him with open arms. Fillion’s role still hasn’t been revealed. Of course, this hasn’t slowed down fan speculation, including the persistent rumor that he’s bringing Arm-Fall-Off-Boy to life in the film. Now, Fillion himself is addressing this rumor.

While speaking with SiriusXM’s Jessica Shaw (via The Hollywood Reporter), Fillion briefly discussed his appearance in The Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, anyone hoping for Arm-Fall-Off-Boy to finally make his live-action debut should prepare to be let down, as Fillion confirmed that’s not who he’s playing in the upcoming sequel/reboot. Regardless, he’s fine with everyone still thinking it is.

“That was never a comic I really dived into, so I didn’t know why they were talking about, and that certainly wasn’t the name I was reading in the script,” Fillion said. “So, I just said, ‘Yeah, yeah, go for it. Whatever you guys think is great so long as you’re not asking—’ it’s so secret. It’s so super, duper secret.”

“I start to sweat a little bit when people start getting close to what I would consider something that’s actually accurate,” added Fillion. “I’m the worst liar. I’m the worst. I couldn’t play poker to save my life.”

Fillion is also set to star alongside a stacked roster of talent in the movie. However, he had particularly good things to say (via Heroic Hollywood) about working with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson.

“Let me tell you what I never knew about Pete Davidson, how incredibly charming he is,” Fillion said. “Oh my god. I always thought that kid looked like ten miles of bad road. Who is this guy? Alright, who is this guy coming here? Here we go! Here we go! He is the nicest man. The nicest man! I used to think I was the nicest man!”

The Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 6, 2021.
