Harrison Ford Explains Why Han Solo Had To Die

Han Solo has always been a big part of the Star Wars universe. And in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Harrison Ford finally got his wish to see Han perish onscreen. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ford discussed how he was able to get a proper end for Han.

“I figured that his utility had been exhausted, bled out, and, well, I was willing to die for the cause,” explained Ford. “Bring some gravitas, some base.”

Han’s life ended at the hands of his son, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. However, that wasn’t the end of Ford’s part in the franchise. He reprised his role one last time in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to give his son some much needed guidance.

Ford also explained how director, J.J. Abrams, came to him with “a good idea” to bring Han back for The Rise of Skywalker. Ford eventually agreed, and made his surprise appearance in the film. That was also the scene where Han’s son rejected the dark side and became Ben Solo again.
