Wonder Woman Star Gal Gadot Wants a Modern Day Sequel

In Wonder Woman 1984 the powerful heroine will finally step into a new decade — the 80s. But if Gal Gadot had her way with the next film in the series, it will be in a more modern setting. During a recent roundtable interview hosted by Entertainment Weekly, WW 1984 co-star Pedro Pascar asked Gadot where the next Wonder Woman film should take place.

“Present day, that would be really awesome,” she said. Director Patty Jenkins also noted that her decision to set the sequel in the ’80s was largely because of the wardrobe. Gadot then added, “maybe future,” as another possible time frame for the potential sequel.

“I’m the only person that can’t answer, because I’m likely going to have to choose the next,” said Jenkins. “There would be lots of great eras.”

Jenkins brings up a solid point, considering Wonder Woman worked so well in World War I.  But how would a modern Wonder Woman movie would work? And more importantly, who would Diana face off against?

For now, all attention is going to Wonder Woman 1984, and its signature decade. You can watch EW’s full interview below; which also features Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) and Kristen Wiig as Minerva/Cheetah.

Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on June 4.
