Joaquin Phoenix Brings the Chaos After Joker Golden Globe Win

Joaquin Phoenix‘s amazing performance as Arthur Fleck in Joker couldn’t go unnoticed. During the 77th Golden Globe Awards, Phoenix picked up the award for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. In the press room afterward, it seemed that the actor has become more impatient when it comes to speaking about his performance. When asked about what he did to prepare for playing the Joker, Phoenix looked a bit puzzled and annoyed.

“Isn’t this old news?” Phoenix sarcastically asked. “I felt like I talked about this for six months.” Then he explained that he read about political assassins in preparation for his Arthur Fleck.

The latest live-action incarnation of Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime won against some really tough competitors such as Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes). Phoenix confessed that he still feels like a student towards most of them.

Phoenix became the third actor to score a Golden Globe nomination for portraying the Joker on the big screen. Prior to him, Heath Ledger won — posthumously — for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role back in 2009. In 1990, Jack Nicholson got a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy but he did not win.

Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir also had her moment to shine for her work in Joker. Guðnadóttir bought home the Golden Globe for the Best Original Score – Motion Picture.

On a different note, Arthur Fleck’s story fell short of landing two other Golden Globe awards. Todd Phillips’ Joker also competed for the Best Motion Picture – Drama award and Phillips himself run for Best Director – Motion Picture, but both awards went to Sam Mendes and his war movie 1917.
