Someday, a movie based on Sony’s Uncharted video game franchise may finally make it to the big screen. But by the time that happens, Tom Holland may actually be the correct age to play Nathan Drake. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Travis Knight is the latest director to leave Uncharted. The Bumblebee helmer joined the Uncharted movie back in September, but didn’t stay very long.
According to THR, Spider-Man is to blame for Knight’s pending departure. Before Sony and Marvel made a new deal for a third MCU Spider-Man movie, Uncharted was expected to begin filming soon to meet its December 2020 release date. However, Holland’s schedule now includes a Spider-Man film that will hit theaters in July 2021; which is expected to push Uncharted back even further.

David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, and Dan Trachtenberg were all previously attached to direct Uncharted. Knight was the sixth director to try to bring Nathan Drake’s globetrotting adventures to live-action. Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway have reportedly completed a new draft for the script. That also means the search for a new director should begin soon.
Along with Holland, Mark Wahlberg remains attached to Uncharted. Wahlberg will play Sully, Drake’s mentor and partner. The rest of the roles remain uncast.
