Superman: Red Son Trailer Introduces the Soviet Union’s Man of Steel

What if Superman’s rocket crashed in the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War? Mark Millar and artist Dave Johnson answered that question in 2003 with their Elseworlds miniseries, Superman: Red Son. In this world, the Man of Steel “the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.” As opposed to say, “truth, justice, and the American way.” Superman still wants to save the world, but his ideology is very different.

IGN has debuted the first trailer for Superman: Red Son, the upcoming animated direct-to-digital/Blu-ray film. Within these clips, the Soviet Superman makes himself known to the world while courting Wonder Woman’s favor. However, Lex Luthor, the Green Lantern Corps, and even Batman oppose this Man of Steel. But unlike his American counterpart, this Superman won’t show much mercy for his foes.
