James Gunn Promises That Endgame Won’t Alter His Guardians 3 Plans

Between directing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films and his current gig helming The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros., James Gunn’s star has never been higher. Naturally, fans are still wondering what’s going to happen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And during a recent Q&A session on Instagram, Gunn addressed whether Avengers: Endgame had a serious impact on the sequel’s story.

Via ComicBookMovie.com, Gunn was specifically asked if the events that transpired in Endgame and its predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War, prompted any changes to Guardians 3’s screenplay. He insisted that there will be some tweaks, but not because of Endgame’s conclusion.

“The script will change because my scripts always keep changing up until the moment I shoot them,” said Gunn. “But it won’t change according to anything from Endgame, because I already knew what was in that script before I wrote Guardians 3.”

Gunn announced last year that he finished his first draft of the Guardians 3 script. However, Disney fired him from the movie after off-color tweets he posted several years ago were unearthed. The studio ultimately rehired him earlier this year. Regardless, Guardians 3 is still without a new release date after Marvel delayed its original 2020 opening. Gunn still needs to finish The Suicide Squad before he can jump back to the MCU.
