Mindhunter’s Jonathan Groff signed on for for The Matrix 4 earlier this week. Now, Deadline is reporting that Toby Onwumere is also joining the cast. Onwumere is reuniting with director Lana Wachowski, who previously worked with him on the Netflix series, Sense8. He also appeared in season 5 of Fox’s Empire.
Onwumere joins a cast that features returning cast members Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) and Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe). Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have also been cast. However, their specific roles have not been revealed.

Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell are writing the script for this. Wachowski is also producin The Matrix 4 alongside Grant Hill and Village Roadshow.
The sequel doesn’t have a start date yet, but the cast is coming into focus. Filming should take place sometime in 2020.
