Variety recently posted a huge article talking about the future of DC Films. There’s discussion about what’s happening with The Flash, as well as the possibility of more R-rated films like James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. But one interesting little detail came up about the future of Superman.
Per the report, Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan had a meeting with Warner Bros. earlier this year, with a new pitch for the character. However, there hasn’t been much heard from it since. On top of that, Jordan may not actually have time to film it anytime soon. The report indicates that the star “isn’t ready to commit” just yet, mainly due to his busy schedule. Insiders indicate that the film may not even be ready to go until sometime in 2023, without a director attached.

This is interesting news, since Henry Cavill recently spoke about possibly playing Superman again.
“I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on,” said Cavill. “I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed anything surrounding the Jordan meeting just yet, nor has it revealed its DC plans outside of 2020. But both Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 84 are set to drop in 2020.
