Colin Trevorrow recently teased that we’d hear more about Jurassic World 3 after the Battle at Big Rock short dropped last month. Much to fans’ delight, he’s making good on that promise. Deadline brings word that Mamoudou Athie is has joined the film’s cast. Unfortunately, the nature of his role is unknown.
Mamoudou Athie recently garnered praise for his work as a series regular on the Facebook Watch series Sorry For Your Loss. He also appeared in the films Patti Cake$ and The Circle in 2017. Next year, he will star opposite Kristen Stewart in the sci-fi thriller Underwater.
Athie will join returning Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the upcoming third installment. Additionally, the film features Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum returning as their characters from the original Jurassic Park trilogy.
The Jurassic franchise has been doing considerably well for Universal. It recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, earning more than $5 billion at the box office over the years. Its most recent release, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, generated $1.3 billion worldwide on its own in 2018.

Trevorrow, who directed the original Jurassic World, will helm the third film, taking over from Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona. He’s also writing the script alongside Emily Carmichael from a story he crafted with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly.
Plot details for Jurassic World 3 haven’t been revealed just yet. But considering how Fallen Kingdom ended, there will be some tricky circumstances to overcome now that dinosaurs are roaming free all over the planet. Battle At Big Rock gave us our first sampling of this new world when it premiered on FX in September.
Jurassic World 3 will be released on June 11, 2021.
