Joker’s Second Weekend Scores Another October Box Office Record

Heading into its second weekend, Joker was expected to bring around $40-43 million. However, Joker far exceeded those projections with $55 million and easily retained its #1 slot at the box office. That broke Gravity‘s $43.1 million record for a second weekend in October. Now, Joker stands at $192.3 million domestically, and it’s just getting started. Worldwide, the film’s total is now approximately $500,000.

Via Deadline, The Addams Family also had a strong debut weekend. The animated flick opened with $30.3 million. Ang Lee’s Gemini Man came in third, with $20.5 million. Unfortunately for star Will Smith, his action/sci-fi film had been projected to have a much higher opening.

Dreamworks’ Abominable came in fourth place with $6.1 million, while Downton Abbey added $4.9 million in fifth place. In the sixth slot, Hustlers neared $100 million total with $3.8 million. Judy followed in seventh place with $3.26 million, while It: Chapter Two came in eighth with $3.22 million. The new domestic total for that Stephen King adaptation is now $207.1 million.

Jexi finished in ninth place with $3.1 million, while Ad Astra rounded out the top ten with $1.9 million.

Next weekend, Joker will be challenged by Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Zombieland: Double Tap. It also remains to be seen if either of those films can dethrone the Joker from his top spot.
