WETA Shows off Avengers: Endgame VFX Reel

Avengers: Endgame has become the year’s biggest hit, grossing over $2.7 billion at the box office. Its acting ensemble is a huge reason for that, but the special effects go a long way as well. Weta Digital really went all out to deliver a spectacular looking set of visuals for the film, including smaller things fans might have missed. And now, some footage from the final battle shows just how hard the team worked on the effects.

The video highlights certain moments that have been spruced up thanks to the help of Weta. For instance, the gathering of the heroes during the “Avengers…assemble!” moment is a lot smaller beforehand. But after their touch-ups, it looks way more epic.

As mentioned, smaller things also come into play. For instance, how Tony Stark’s hand becomes aglow once he acquires the Infinity Stones. The model work first shows highlights of the Stone effect by themselves, eventually blended together with Robert Downey Jr. to create a seamless effect.

It’s also impressive to see what the team does with its green-screen work in Endgame. Most of the battle was filmed on a sound stage. But Weta Digital makes it look much, much bigger in the final product. And CG characters mix in with real ones, without missing a beat.

The highlight reel is below. It is a little bit on the short side, and the footage can go by in a flash in some parts (like the Thanos/Captain America battle). But fans fascinated by visual effects will definitely want to give it a look.
