Earlier this week, Tank Girl co-creator Alan Martin revealed that Margot Robbie picked up the option to reboot his comic book as a new film. Now, Collider is reporting that Robbie has chosen director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte to bring Tank Girl back to the big screen.
Robbie and Joris-Peyrafitte previously collaborated in the film Dreamland. Joris-Peyrafitte’s previous credits include the feature film As You Are. Robbie is producing the Tank Girl reboot through her LuckyChap production company alongside MGM. Robbie’s production partners, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, will also produce the film. However, Robbie “won’t commit” to star as Tank Girl until after she reads the script.

Martin and Jamie Hewlett created the Tank Girl comic back in 1988. It’s a post-apocalyptic comic about a punk-rock style tank operator leaving havoc in her wake. Tank Girl’s boyfriend is a mutated humanoid kangaroo named Booga; while her best friend is the aptly nicknamed Jet Girl. According to Collider, the new film will feature Tank Girl and Jet Girl teaming up with rebels to overthrow a tyrannical force that controls the most precious commodity of all: water.
Director Rachael Talalay helmed the previous Tank Girl film in 1995. Lori Petty portrayed Tank Girl, while Jeff Kober played Booga, and Naomi Watts stepped into the role of Jet Girl. Ice-T and Malcolm McDowell also starred in the cult classic film.
