Earlier this week, there were three new additions to New Line’s Mortal Kombat reboot. Now, the studio has recruited two more actors to join the film’s stacked roster of characters. According to Variety, Chin Han and Hiroyuki Sanada have been cast in the movie as Shang Tsung and Scorpion, respectively.
Comic book movie fans might recognize Han from his role as the ill-fated mob accountant Lau in The Dark Knight. He had a recurring role in Arrow’s first season as Frank Chen and was also a series regular on Netflix’s Marco Polo. Han’s film appearances include Contagion, Skyscraper, and Independence Day: Resurgence.
Sanada recently showed up during a memorable scene in Avengers: Endgame, where he faced Clint Barton’s Ronin persona in a sword fight. He also starred as Shingen Yashida in The Wolverine in 2013. On the TV side, Sanada has appeared on The Last Ship, Helix, Extant, and Lost.

News that Shang Tsung and Scorpion will be in the film is sure to make plenty of longtime Mortal Kombat players very happy. Both characters debuted in the original game in 1992 and have since become fan-favorites. Shang Tsung is known for his shapeshifting ability as well as his tendency to absorb the souls of his enemies in order to stay young. He’s also the archenemy of Liu Kang, who will be played by Ludi Lin in the upcoming film.
Meanwhile, Scorpion is the infamous undead ninja who seeks revenge against Sub-Zero for the murder of his family. Scorpion recently graced the cover of Mortal Kombat 11 earlier this year.
Mortal Kombat will be released on March 5, 2021.
