As the drama surrounding Spider-Man’s big-screen future continues to unfold, it looks like another one of Sony’s prospective franchises has hit a new snag. Deadline is reporting that Dan Trachtenberg is no longer involved with the studio’s Uncharted film, leaving the project without a director once again.
Dan Trachtenberg first signed on to helm Uncharted back in January. His hiring came one month after his predecessor, Shawn Levy, left the film to concentrate on Free Guy. In spite of this new development, Sony remains committed to getting the movie off the ground. The studio has already started meeting with various new candidates to fill the director’s chair. Deadline indicates that Sony still plans to start production on the video game adaptation in early 2020.

Additionally, the report reveals that PlayStation Productions is formally lending its name to the movie’s credits. Its leaders, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, will produce the film alongside Chuck Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad. Uncharted will also mark the production house’s inaugural cinematic venture.
Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Rafe Judkins wrote the script for Sony’s Uncharted movie. Tom Holland remains attached to star as the film’s younger version of Nathan Drake. Because of Disney and Sony’s messy Spider-Man divorce, Holland’s future as Spidey is unclear. Regardless, Holland still plans on making an appearance at Keystone Comic-Con in Philadelphia this weekend. It seems likely that fans will bombard him with questions over both that affair and this latest Uncharted news.
