Ben Affleck’s The Batman will never make it to the big screen, but at least we have some hints of how it should have been. Three-time Academy Award winning cinematographer Robert Richardson would have shot The Batman back when Ben Affleck was still on board to write and direct the project. In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Heroic Hollywood), Richardson revealed that the movie would have explored both Arkham and the darker side of Batman.
“Well, he was going more into the insanity aspects,” he said. “So I think you would’ve seen something a little darker than what we’ve seen in the past and more into the individual, who was inside Batman. What element may be sane and what element may actually not be sane. So he was entering into a little more of the Arkham, as you know, he’s going into where you keep everyone who was bad, everyone that shifted and Batman. And so that whole aspect was sort of… it was very fascinating to go to the darker side of Batman.”

Then the cinematographer acknowledged that Arkham hasn’t been used to its fullest potential on the big screen, reiterating his interest in the subject.
“No, and that’s where we were going,” he added. “I was very interested in that one.”
Now, Matt Reeves’ The Batman will feature a much younger version of Bruce Wayne, as Robert Pattinson will portray the Caped Crusader. As for Arkham, we will likely have to wait for a bit to see a movie focusing on it. Rumor has it that the upcoming movie will feature a “Rogue’s Gallery” of villains in the movie. For those who like that much Arkham, it is still possible to take a walk into the asylum while playing Batman: Arkham Asylum.
The Batman will hit theaters on June 25, 2021. Would you have wanted to see a Batman movie focusing on Arkham? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
