Marvel Considered Announcing Its Phase 5 Films At Comic-Con

As expected, Marvel’s Hall H panel was the talk of Comic-Con. But according to Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, it could have included both Phase 4 and Phase 5 announcements.

While speaking with MTV News, Feige said “we debated what we should announce today. Should we announce [Phases] Four and Five? We’ve planned them out. We’ve got five years down the road. And I was like, I think eleven projects in two years is plenty.”

Regardless of the announcements, there are a few films that are strong candidates for Phase 5. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on hold until after he finishes The Suicide Squad for Warner Brothers. Feige also introduced two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as the next Blade. That suggests that the Blade reboot is already in motion.

What else could be on tap for Phase 5? Black Panther 2 is currently in development, with Ryan Coogler set to return as the writer and director. A sequel to Captain Marvel is also in the works, and the ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home also appeared to set up a sequel. However, Sony and Marvel have not yet announced an extension of their Spider-Man deal.

Marvel’s next opportunity for a showcase will be at Disney’s D23 convention next month. If more announcements are forthcoming, they will likely happen there.
