The Flash movie is still alive at Warner Bros., but it’s losing its directors again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have left the film. However, Warner Bros. is already in talks with It director Andy Muschietti to take over the movie.
THR also notes that Ezra Miller will still star as the Flash/Barry Allen. But Warner Bros. passed on using the script that Miller wrote with comics scribe Grant Morrison. Instead, Bumblebee screenwriter Christina Hodson is in negotiations to write a new draft. She also wrote the upcoming Birds of Prey movie. Neither Muschietti nor Hodson have officially signed on yet, but their deals are in progress.

The report indicates that Daley and Goldstein’s exit was voluntary. The duo signed on to helm The Flash in early 2018, but the film struggled to get into production. Last year, Daley and Goldstein reportedly ran into creative differences with Miller. That’s why Miller and Morrison wrote their own Flash script independent of Daley and Goldstein’s draft. Miller wanted a darker take on The Flash, while Daley8 and Goldstein favored a lighter and more comedic movie.
Ultimately, the studio didn’t commit to either script, but the decision was made to retain Miller for the movie. Presuming Muschietti and Hodson sign on, “the goal is to be in prep by January 2020.” However, the movie still has no start date or even a release window.
