Kevin Feige Compares Black Widow Prequel to Better Call Saul

In spite of her death during the events of Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow will reportedly be the protagonist of her own origin story movie in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Currently, neither Disney or Marvel Studios have officially confirmed Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow prequel in the upcoming Phase 4. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, though, has recently spoken with io9, about it. He explained that there are two possible ways to tell Natasha Romanoff’s story.

“There’s a method to the madness,” Feige said. “There’s always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn’t necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before.”

Then Feige drew comparisons with Better Call Saul, hinting that Black Widow might spiritually follow Saul Goodman’s footsteps.

“I look at Better Call Saul as a wonderful example of a prequel that almost completely stands on its own apart from Breaking Bad because it informs you about so many things you didn’t know about before,” Feige added. “So time will tell which way we’ve gone with a supposed Black Widow movie.”

We will probably have to wait for Marvel’s return to Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con to hear more details about this project. Our guess is that Black Widow already had her own suspicions about the Multiverse, but wasn’t able to share her doubts with the rest of the Avengers.
