Paramount Delays the G.I. Joe and Micronauts Movies

For years, Hasbro has had grand ambitions to launch its own shared universe based on its various toylines. However, those MCU-like plans will have to wait. Paramount has apparently pushed back the upcoming G.I. Joe and Micronauts movies.

Via Deadline, G.I. Joe‘s new release date is October 16, 2020. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 27, 2020; while the Micronauts had the October date. Since G.I. Joe is taking that slot, Micronauts is settling into its new date: June 4, 2021. Back in December, Hasbro and Paramount announced the previous release dates, and set Dungeons and Dragons for July 23, 2021. Whether the D&D film will hold that date remains to be seen.

The proposed Hasbro Cinematic Universe will include G.I. Joe, MicronautsVisionaries, M.A.S.K., and ROM: SpaceKnight. Hasbro also owns both Power Rangers and Transformers, but there are currently no plans to bring them into the HCU.

Paramount previously released two G.I. Joe live-action movies in 2009 and 2013, respectively. However, the new film is likely to be a complete reboot. Neither G.I. Joe nor Micronauts has a director in place and casting has yet to begin. The only Hasbro movie that’s shown any recent momentum was the Snake Eyes spinoff movie featuring the breakout hero from G.I. Joe. Late last year, Paramount was reportedly in talks with director Robert Schwentke to helm Snake Eyes.
