Spider-Man: Far From Home Gets an Early Release in China

Earlier today, a new Spider-Man: Far From Home Chinese trailer featured several new scenes from the Spidey sequel. Now, it looks like China will get to see the movie a bit earlier than American audiences. Deadline brings word that Far From Home is hitting theaters in China on June 28, four days before its U.S. premiere.

China is a major factor in a film’s international box office gross, especially for Marvel Studios films. As Deadline notes, the country is responsible for a substantial portion of Avengers: Endgame’s international box office. Endgame has currently made $629.1 million in China, almost 30% of its worldwide gross of nearly $2.7 billion. That film got an early release overseas as well.

Not surprisingly, Far From Home is tracking for a massive debut. According to Box Office Pro (via CBR), early estimates have the film pegged for an opening weekend total of $90-120 million. Moreover, the movie’s initial six-day total could reach as high as $230 million. Far From Home gives fans their first look into the MCU’s post-Endgame landscape. It goes without saying that audiences are excited to see how the Decimation’s reversal is affecting the world at large.

Because the film is getting an early release elsewhere, fans looking to avoid spoilers will have to be careful. It’s become an unfortunately regular occurrence for footage from early screenings to end up online. Moviegoers might be wise to repeat their Endgame strategy and mute certain buzzwords on social media.
