Todd McFarlane Provides an Update on the Spawn Reboot

It’s been a while since we heard any new information about Todd McFarlane’s Spawn reboot. Unlike the ’90s Spawn film, McFarlane plans to write and direct the new movie himself. Unfortunately, McFarlane seems to have hit some new bumps in the road.

In a new interview with ComicBook.com, McFarlane updated fans on the status of his film. Apparently, there are financial backers that he needs to impress with the screenplay. But what’s most surprising about his remarks is his admission that he’s willing to pull the plug on the whole thing if he’s forced to drastically alter his story.

“The money’s sitting on the sidelines ready to go, said McFarlane. “I just need to get everyone that wants to put in money to shake their hands to the same script. As you can imagine, everyone has a slightly different version of it in their head. You just go and trying to appease a handful of people while not giving in to what it is that I’m trying to do myself. Because if I have to change it too much, I’ll just walk away from it all.”

McFarlane previously participated in a Reddit AMA back in December and revealed that the film wouldn’t retell the character’s origin. Now, we have to wonder if this is one part of the screenplay that the financial backers disagree with.

In the meantime, Jamie Foxx is still attached to play Spawn alongside Jeremy Renner’s Twitch Williams. But it remains to be seen how long they’re willing to stay on board before filling their schedules with other projects.

Are you still hoping for the Spawn film to see the light of day? How would you feel if McFarlane walked away from the project? Let us know in the comment section below!
