Even the mightiest movies eventually run out of steam. After three weekends atop the box office charts, the Avengers have finally met their match. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum came in strong with a $57 million opening weekend. That was more than enough to take number 1 at the box office. For its fourth weekend, Avengers: Endgame brought in $29.4 million; which was down 53% from the previous weekend. However, Endgame‘s new total, $770 million, has pushed it past Avatar on the all-time domestic box office list.
John Wick: Chapter 3 also surpassed the $30 million opening weekend of John Wick: Chapter Two. The first John Wick film only hit $43 million domestically before becoming a hit after its theatrical run. John Wick: Chapter Two improved upon that total with $92 million. John Wick: Chapter 3 is well on its way to surpassing its predecessor. That probably means John Wick: Chapter Four will get a greenlight in the near future.

Coming in at number 3 was Detective Pikachu, with $23.2 million. From there, it’s a pretty steep drop to A Dog’s Journey at number 4 with $9 million. The Hustle came in fifth place with $6.3 million. The Intruder ($4.2 million) and Long Shot ($3.4 million) took sixth and seventh place, respectively. Rounding out the top ten were The Sun Is Also A Star ($2.6 million), Poms ($2.1 million), and UglyDolls ($1.6 million).
Looking ahead to next weekend, the live-action remake of Aladdin seems likely to be the new box office champion. It should be interesting to see what kind of hold John Wick: Chapter 3 and Avengers: Endgame will have in the face of another Disney blockbuster.
