Over the past 11 years, Marvel Studios has released 22 films. That’s not even counting the superhero flicks released by Warner Bros. and DC Comics, as well as Lionsgate. That’s why some observers still have concerns about “superhero fatigue” at the box office. However, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige isn’t worried. During a recent Reddit AMA, a Feige was asked about the dreaded superhero fatigue, and he clearly wasn’t concerned about it.
“Nobody would get fatigued before the creative forces at Marvel Studios who do this 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Feige. “So we believe that if we’re still taking risks and making unique choices to keep ourselves excited, the audience will feel the same way.”
However, some of Feige’s previous collaborators have burned out on superheroes, at least for a while. Following his effort on Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Joss Whedon stepped away to work on other things. The Russo brothers are also taking a break from superheroes after directing four Marvel movies in the last five years.

But with casual moviegoers, Marvel Studios hasn’t lost any steam. Avengers: Endgame continues to be a box office beast with over $2.5 billion worldwide so far. Other recent releases have scored big as well. Black Panther produced $1.3 billion last year, with $700 million in the U.S. alone. Captain Marvel set the stage for Endgame’s dominance with $1.1 billion.
With the events that unfolded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios isn’t likely to run out of steam. Characters like Black Panther and Doctor Strange have sequels in development. Meanwhile The Eternals and other new heroes will make their MCU debuts in the years ahead.
