Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Avengers: Endgame!
It’s common knowledge by now that Marvel Studios took no chances when trying to keep Avengers: Endgame’s plot under wraps. Robert Downey Jr. was reportedly the only actor who got to read the entire script. However, his co-stars weren’t so lucky. Other cast members only got to read pages that featured their characters or had to film multiple different endings to maintain secrecy. Now, Sebastian Stan is the latest actor to come forward about his own in-the-dark experience on the film’s set.
Stan appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show when host Jimmy Fallon asked if he actually knew what was going on during filming. Stan’s response was blunt.
“Not for this one, we didn’t,” said Stan. “Everything I filmed, I found out on the day. You could kind of tell by my expression, I hide the confusion well under a Zoolander look. We didn’t know.”
He also revealed how the Russos prepared him for one of Endgame’s final scenes. And we have to admit, it’s a clever use of misdirection on their part.

“I was told there was a wedding,” explained Stan. “A wedding that we were filming, and I was like, ‘Who’s getting married?’ But everyone was dressed very formal and I was looking around and two people weren’t there so I guess that was the bride and the groom. But that’s what it was. It was a wedding. You saw the movie, right? It was a wedding.”
It was actually a funeral service for Tony Stark, who sacrificed himself to keep Thanos from getting another chance to wipe out life in the universe. After the newly-widowed Pepper Potts sets his original arc reactor adrift on the lake by their cabin, the camera embarks on a continuous shot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s major players dressed in proper mourning attire. Even Ty Simpkins, who played Harley Keener in Iron Man 3, showed up to pay his respects.
