Avengers: Endgame Director Discusses Spider-Man: Far From Home Timeline

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame!

While Avengers: Endgame provides a strong conclusion to the current Marvel Studios story arc, some fans have interesting questions from it. For instance, how is Peter Parker able to return to school five years later without missing a beat? That’s something Endgame co-director Joe Russo recently addressed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

In the film, Peter returns to his local high school and he finds his best friend, Ned, waiting for him as if no time has passed. How is this happening? According to Russo, “So…Ned disappeared as well. That’s the two of them seeing each other for the first time after having disappeared.”

But then there’s the question about which of Peter’s friends also went through the snap. Some of them return in the forthcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home, including Zendaya’s Michelle/MJ – without having aged a day. While Russo stopped just short of confirming this, he did provide a hint.

“Just because half the population got wiped out, that doesn’t mean that everyone that they went to high school with didn’t disappear,” continued Russo. “There could be kids who are now much older than them and no longer in high school. But Ned and [Peter] both disappeared and are returning to that moment.”

We’ll find out how everything unfolds when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2. Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now.
