Coming into the weekend, everyone knew that Avengers: Endgame was going to be a blockbuster. However, no one could have predicted a $350 million dollar opening weekend, or $1.2 billion worldwide. This has never happened before. Endgame also broke the record previously held by Avengers: Infinity War by almost $100 million. Now, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have offered up a message for fans in response to Endgame‘s success.
Via their Instagram account, the Russo brothers recounted some of their history before thanking fans for accompanying them on their journey.

Because this weekend happened to coincide with Game of Thrones‘ Battle of Winterfell, the Russos also shared Jeff Cole‘s crossover image featuring Thanos and the Night King.
Thanks to their experience as TV comedy directors, Marvel hired the Russos to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. The strong response to that film encouraged Marvel to give the Russos even more responsibilities. Marvel subsequently signed them to direct Captain America: Civil War. The Russos were also brought on to helm two back-to-back Avengers films: Infinity War and Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame will likely be the final Marvel movie directed by the Russos, at least for a while. Their next film will be Cherry, which will star the MCU’s Spider-Man, Tom Holland. Presumably, they will be able to give Holland the full script this time.
