Two Avengers Supporting Cast Members Update Their Endgame Status

Very few characters have appeared in Avengers: Endgame’s marketing materials. But with a three-hour runtime, the film will probably be Marvel Studios’ most crowded movie to date. There’s still speculation about which secondary characters will show up for cameos. However, we can now confirm that one supporting cast member from Thor’s orbit won’t be gracing Endgame with his presence.

Metro (via Newsarama) recently asked Stellan Skarsgard if he will be reprising his role as Dr. Erik Selvig in Endgame. Skarsgard, who is about to star as the villain in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, offered a blunt reply.

“No I’m not,” said Skarsgard. “I’ve done four [Marvel films] and they have me contracted for five and they haven’t called me yet. They usually call me when they need some weird plot to be explained in a quasi-scientific way.”

Skarsgard made his last MCU appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron when Thor enlisted Selvig’s help to decipher his apocalyptic vision, resulting in the team’s first knowledge of the Infinity Stones. It’s interesting to learn that Skarsgard still has to appear in one more Marvel movie to fulfill his contractual obligations. Marvel Studios may be saving him for an important role down the line.

On the other hand, Linda Cardellini was more cagey when The Hollywood Reporter questioned her about her Endgame involvement. Cardellini played Clint Barton’s wife, Laura, in Age of Ultron, her first and only MCU appearance to date. Since Hawkeye’s family presumably fell victim to Thanos’ snap, Endgame would be a logical place for her character to return to the fold.

“I am not allowed to confirm nor deny,” said Cardellini. “But I do get to go to the premiere. So, that will be fun.”
