Spider-Man: Far From Home Enlists Trans Actor Zach Barack

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will be breaking new ground once again for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2017 acclaimed hit Spider-Man: HomecomingThe Hollywood Reporter brings the announcement that transgender actor Zach Barack (L.A.’s Finest) will appear in the film, marking him as reportedly the first out trans actor to appear in a big budget superhero film.

Barack, whose role is currently undisclosed, appeared in the first trailer that debuted on January 15 and quickly set the record for the most-viewed trailer for Sony Pictures in a 24-hour time period, garnering over 130 million views. It is believed he is portraying one of Peter Parker’s friends on the trip with him in Europe. You can see him in a scene from the trailer on the far right of the below pic!

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed the 2019 sequel will take Parker out of New York for a European adventure in London that will reflect the global aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Holland previously confirmed a third film is also in the works. The follow-up will feature Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in his Junior year at Midtown School of Science and Technology following the events of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and its summer 2019 sequel, which will also feature Holland as the webslinger.

Confirmed cast members include Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, plus Zendaya and Marisa Tomei as “MJ” and Aunt May. Jake Gyllenhaal will play Mysterio while Michael Keaton is set to return as Adrian Toomes/The Vulture. New additions include comedian J.B. Smoove and Numan Acar (Aladdin) as Dimitri. MCU veterans Samuel L. Jackson (Captain Marvel) and Cobie Smulders also appear as Nick Fury and Maria Hill, respectively.

Barack is also set to appear in the upcoming Bad Boys television spin-off L.A.’s Finest alongside the Gabrielle Union, who will be reprising her role from Bad Boys 2, and Jessica Alba (Mechanic: Resurrection), which is expected to debut on Spectrum sometime later this year.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, all returning from Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie will hit theaters on July 5, 2019.
