Wondering why Thaedus killed Argall in Invincible comics? Here’s all you need to know.
Here’s why Thaedus killed Argall in Invincible comics
Thaedus killed Emperor Argall of the Viltrum Empire as he had grown to disapprove of their thirst for conquest and warmongering ways.
Thaedus’ murder of Argall is considered to be the first instance of rebellion against the Viltrum Empire. Following his murder of Argall, Thaedus founded the Coalition of Planets alongside other like-minded beings, with the aim of bringing to an end, an era of violence and fear.
Thaedus originally believed himself to be an anomaly and that he was the only Viltrumite to rebel against his kind. That was until Unopan, Allen the Alien, who became affiliated with the Coalition, came to him and informed him of Mark Grayson.
Despite learning of Mark Grayson’s resistance to the Viltrum Empire’s takeover of other planets, Thaedus was technically still an anomaly. This is because he had concluded that the Viltrum Empire’s actions were wrong all by himself. Thaedus’ situation was unlike his fellow Viltrumite, Nolan/Omni-Man, who only realized the Viltrum Empire’s warmongering was wrong after he spent considerable time on Earth, where he grew to love his wife and son.
Unfortunately, Thadeus’ murder of Argall caused Viltrum more harm than good. Argall’s demise led to the loss of his heirs and the devastating event known as The Great Purge on Viltrum. The Great Purge also caused Thragg to assume the position of Grand Regent and become the strongest Viltrumite.
Thaedus’ efforts to stop the Viltrum Empire also prompted him to develop the Scourge Virus. He was unaware of the virus’ danger to the Viltrumites and its cause for their near extinction until Nolan informed him of it, shocking him.
Ultimately, Thaedus’ actions of rebellion led to a chain of events that resulted in Mark Grayson assuming the role of Viltrum Emperor and reforming the Empire into a force for good.
