Avengers: Doomsday Filming Update Reveals When MCU Movie’s Production Starts

Joe and Anthony Russo revealed the filming window for Avengers: Doomsday, which will see the brothers return to direct a Marvel film for the first time since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

What was the Avengers: Doomsday filming update?

In an interview with Collider at New York Comic Con, Joe Russo revealed that the highly-anticipated movie will begin filming in the spring. He also shared that the MCU feature will be released on May 1, 2026.

At this early stage, not much is known about Avengers: Doomsday and its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, though both will be directed by the Russos. Stephen McFeely, who previously co-wrote Captain America movies and the last two Avengers sequels, will co-write Doomsday and Secret Wars with Loki creator Michael Waldron. As of now, Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to be released on May 1, 2027.

The biggest confirmation regarding Avengers: Doomsday is that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU to portray Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. Amidst plenty of online speculation, it’s unclear what Downey’s role as Doom means for his time as Tony Stark. It’s also known that The Fantastic Four — as played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach — will appear in the film. Further casting is so far unannounced.

Avengers: Doomsday was previously titled The Kang Dynasty, though Marvel pivoted away from the Kang focus after actor Jonathan Majors was fired in December 2023.

Marvel still has a few movies to release before Doomsday, in any case, with Captain America: Brave New World releasing on February 14, 2025. It will be followed by Thunderbolts* on May 2 of that same year. On the television side, Daredevil: Born Again comes out on March 4, 2025. Ironheart is also scheduled to come out in 2025.
